BWB launches new website

The launch of an innovative website for Bridget Williams Books – – signals new pathways to influential New Zealand authors, books and ideas.

The website is at the heart of a creative digital publishing strategy, drawing on over three decades of award winning publishing by Bridget Williams.

Today BWB is an independent New Zealand publisher of books on New Zealand history, Māori history, women’s issues and contemporary topics.

Highlights of the new website include:

  • The website’s architecture accommodates multiple formats – print books, e-books, e-chapters and library products – as we move into a hybrid world of print and digital publishing. The first of these new formats, e-books, will be available this month, with dozens more to follow in 2013.
  • A striking design by Neil Pardington at Base Two connects the website with recent covers and our 2012/13 catalogue. The website was developed by Base Two and the BWB team, using an open-source platform.
  • Visitors to the website can search across the actual chapter content of BWB titles, thanks to a partnership with Google Books. Results can be previewed book-by-book, chapter-by-chapter, word-by-word, before prompting the visitor to access the book via a bookstore or local library.
  • Similarly, visitors can preview and search inside individual books, by clicking on the cover when viewing the page for a specific title.
  • The use of a new metadata initiative launched by Google, Bing and Yahoo! – – places BWB’s books on a new global stage. Each book automatically generates this metadata when added to the website, making it easier for people to find our books when searching online.
  • Recent books are integrated with the new BWB e-Reviews service, providing reviewers with on-call and immediate review access to BWB titles, anywhere in the world.

The website will continue to evolve, as BWB’s hybrid publishing programme develops, and please sign-up to the mailing list for more announcements in 2013.
