Trevor Richards is a research fellow at the Stout Research Centre at the University of Victoria in Wellington. He was one of the small group of people who founded HART (Halt All Rascist Tours) in Auckland in 1969, and worked for the organisation for many years, serving as chair (1969–80) and international secretary (1980–85). This long-term commitment led to a history of the anti-apartheid movement in New Zealand – Dancing on My Bones (1999).

Trevor Richards has worked for the Public Service Association and for Volunteer Service Abroad (as external relations manger and previously as programme manager for Africa). His involvement in African issues, initially through the anti-apartheid movement, has taken him regularly to Africa. His most recent publication (with Jeremy Rose and Margot Schwass) is New Zealand Abroad (BWB for Volunteer Service Abroad, 2002).
