Giselle Byrnes is Senior Lecturer in New Zealand History at Victoria University of Wellington, where she teaches courses on Maori–Pakeha relations, the Treaty of Waitangi and public history. She has published widely in academic journals. Her first book, Boundary Markers: Land Surveying and the Colonisation of New Zealand, was published by BWB in 2001. Giselle has most recently published The Waitangi Tribunal and New Zealand History (2004), a study of the Waitangi Tribunal and Treaty claims process in New Zealand.  As general editor, she is preparing a new history of New Zealand, commissioned by Oxford University Press. 

Giselle was born in Timaru, New Zealand, grew up in Tauranga, and has made her home in Wellington since 1995. Giselle is married to fellow historian, Stephen Hamilton, and has a son and a daughter.
