Claire Charters (Ngāti Whakaue, Tūwharetoa, Nga Puhi, Tainui) is a Professor at the University of Auckland Faculty of Law, researching Indigenous peoples’ rights within international and constitutional law. She co-directs the Aotearoa New Zealand Centre for Indigenous Peoples and the Law, a centre dedicated to research, advocacy and leadership in Indigenous rights. Claire’s work has garnered global recognition, including influential roles with the United Nations. Currently, as a Royal Society Rutherford Discovery Fellow, she is leading a significant investigation into constitutional transformation to fulfil Māori aspirations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
