Craig Renney is the Economist and Director of Policy at the New Zealand Council of Trade Unions. He previously served as a Senior Advisor to the Labour-led government (2017–2023), contributing to the Wellbeing Budgets, and has held roles at Treasury, MBIE and the Reserve Bank. He holds qualifications in economics, urban policy and public administration, and is Vice Chair of the Labour Party Policy Council, working with unions and NGOs across Aotearoa. Originally from Northumberland in the UK, where industrial change shaped his interest in economic policy, he moved to New Zealand in 2012. He was recently announced as a Labour Party candidate for the 2026 New Zealand general election.
