Ned Fletcher is a lawyer and historian whose research on the English text of the Treaty of Waitangi has helped reshape contemporary understanding of the Treaty’s meaning and origins. A graduate of the University of Oxford and Waipapa Taumata Rau – the University of Auckland, he is a director of the law firm Kayes Fletcher Walker. His doctoral thesis formed the basis of The English Text of the Treaty of Waitangi (BWB, 2022), winner of the General Non-Fiction Award at the 2023 Ockham New Zealand Book Awards. Fletcher is a trustee of the New Zealand Law Foundation and the Judith Binney Trust, supporting research and writing in law and history.
