Lauris Edmond completed her remarkable three-volume autobiography in the early 1990s. It tells the story of a Hawke’s Bay childhood in an unconventional home, her student days in wartime Wellington, and the years raising a family and teaching throughout New Zealand.

The story then moves back to Wellington, where Edmond settles and launches a ‘second life’ as an acclaimed poet and writer. An Autobiography remains one of the great accounts of a New Zealand writer’s life and her writing, and a tribute to one whose gift it was to ‘make the ordinary shine’ in both poetry and prose.
